CHAMADA PARA ARTIGOS
Está aberta até 31 de outubro de 2026 a chamada para contribuições para o número 5 da Meridional.
Os interessados deverão enviar os seus textos para o endereço de e-mail: geral@revistameridional.pt com indicação da vinculação institucional e o endereço electrónico.
As contribuições são livres e devem integrar-se numa das seguintes rubricas: poesia, crónicas de viagem, conto, ensaios e recensões de livros ou filmes. Deve usar-se como modelo os números 1, 2, 3 e 4 disponíveis no site https://revistameridional.pt/
Todos os textos, à exceção de autores convidados ou de reconhecido mérito literário ou científico, serão submetidos a um procedimento de avaliação por especialistas na temática em causa (blind peer review), pelo que as identidades dos autores permanecerão confidenciais até à publicação.
- Conteúdo e dimensão:
A Meridional aceita contribuições originais, sob a forma de ensaios (30.000 – 40.000 caracteres incluindo espaços), crónicas de viagem e ficção (6.000 – 8.000 caracteres incluindo espaços), poesia e recensões (5.000 – 6.000 caracteres incluindo espaços).
As ilustrações serão a preto e branco e poderão ser sugeridas pelos autores ou, em alternativa, poderão ser convidados ilustradores ou fotógrafos. Máximo de 5 elementos gráficos para cada artigo − tabelas/quadros, fotos, mapas − numerados, legendados e referidos no texto.
A temática comum é o Mediterrâneo no passado e no presente, com abordagens múltiplas.
O dossiê temático será definido para cada número e os autores serão especialistas convidados.
- Seleção de conteúdos e avaliação por pares
Todos os textos propostos para publicação serão primeiramente avaliados pelo Conselho editorial, considerando o grau em que se enquadram no foco da revista e a sua relevância e/ou originalidade no quadro literário e historiográfico e científico atual.
Todos os textos, à exceção de autores convidados e de reconhecido mérito literário ou científico, serão submetidos a um procedimento de avaliação por especialistas na temática em causa, pelo que as identidades dos autores e avaliadores permanecerão confidenciais até à publicação.
A ficção e a poesia serão objeto de apreciação pelo Conselho editorial que aceitará ou não os textos enviados.
Os editores reservam-se o direito de publicar textos que não sejam revistos pelos pares desde que estes resultem de convite expresso a autores de reconhecido mérito.
Todos os textos deverão ser inéditos, salvo excepção justificada.
Cada autor deverá enviar o seu contributo sem qualquer indício de identificação pessoal, mas acompanhado de um documento com uma breve nota biográfica (máximo 1000 caracteres incluindo espaços) onde conste a formação académica, a instituição de vinculação e o seu endereço electrónico.
As decisões e recomendações dos avaliadores são vinculativas e não passíveis de recurso.
3. Formato e notas
Todas as contribuições devem ser enviadas, até 31 de outubro de 2026, para o endereço de e-mail: geral@revistameridional.pt em dois ficheiros (texto e nota biográfica com indicação da vinculação institucional e endereço electrónico) em word (.docx). O tipo de letra deve ser Times New Roman, tamanho 12, 1,5 de espaçamento.
Os ensaios deverão incluir Resumo (até 1.000 caracteres com espaço) e palavras-chave (4-6), em português e inglês, bibliografia e notas.
As referências bibliográficas e citações em tamanho 10 e seguindo as normas Chicago Style.
Para garantir o anonimato na arbitragem científica, qualquer informação explícita sobre o autor (contacto, dados institucionais e outros) deve ser enviada numa página separada, como já referido, e não deve constar de nenhuma parte do texto do artigo. Do mesmo modo, a autocitação ou referências ao trabalho anteriormente publicado ou realizado do autor devem ser limitadas ao mínimo.
4. Citações
As citações com mais de três linhas devem ser destacadas do texto, tamanho 11, espaço simples, e com um avanço de 1,25 à esquerda, sem aspas e terminando com a indicação da fonte (em nota de rodapé). As citações curtas do texto do corpo devem ser efetuadas entre aspas e não em itálico, seguidas da fonte entre parênteses (Ex. Coelho 2021: 56).
5. Bibliografia
Os trabalhos também devem incluir uma bibliografia, organizada alfabeticamente, de todas as obras referenciadas e todas as fontes primárias e secundárias citadas, bem como os títulos que o autor considere essenciais, seguindo a ordem alfabética do apelido do autor.
6. Imagens
Todas as tabelas, imagens, mapas e outros elementos iconográficos (no caso de fotografia, o seu número não deve ultrapassar o estritamente necessário, no formato JPEG ou PNG) devem ser inseridos no texto e também reunidos num ficheiro separado (com as imagens em alta resolução mencionando o número da figura e a respetiva legenda).
O autor é totalmente responsável pelos direitos de autor e garante que foi obtida permissão para uso de imagens, salvo se for solicitado à editora a aquisição dos direitos de publicação.
7. Recensões
Serão somente aceites obras publicadas nos últimos dois anos antes do ano referencial do volume em curso.
Submissões externas deverão notificar previamente a equipa editorial da intenção de recensear a obra, a fim de evitar sobreposições, e indicar a filiação institucional e morada institucional.
No final do texto deverá ser indicado o nome do autor da recensão e a sua filiação institucional.
A referência bibliográfica deve ser feita da seguinte forma: AUTOR. ano. Título. Subtítulo. (Nome da coleção, e número do volume, se for o caso). Local de edição: editora, páginas. ISBN ou ISSN (preço).
8. Idiomas
Aceitamos contribuições em língua portuguesa, espanhola, francesa e inglesa. As contribuições em idiomas estrangeiros, se aceites pelo conselho editorial, poderão serão objeto de tradução para língua portuguesa.
9. Política de acesso aberto e Direitos
A Meridional não cobra taxas de autor (APC) ou Taxas de Submissão de Artigos nem paga direitos de autor.
A contrapartida pela participação será a oferta de dois exemplares impressos da revista e de pdf da contribuição.
Esta revista oferece acesso livre ao seu conteúdo, com embargo de um ano entre cada edição, com base no princípio de que a disponibilização gratuita de produção científica é um elemento crucial para dar continuidade à democratização do conhecimento de nível académico, de acordo com a licença CC BY-NC-ND 4.0
Os direitos permanecem com os autores exceto as imagens ou documentos adquiridos e pagos pelo Instituto de Cultura Ibero-Atlântica.
CALL FOR PAPERS / EDITORIAL POLICY AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The call for contributions for issue 5 of Meridional journal is open until 31 October 2026.
Interested contributors should send their texts to the following email address: geral@revistameridional.pt, stating their institutional affiliation and email address.
Contributions may cover any subject and must fall into one of the following categories: poetry, travelogues, short stories, essays, and literary or film criticism. Issues 1, 2, 3 and 4, available at https://revistameridional.pt/, should be used as a model.
All texts, with the exception of those by invited authors or authors of recognised literary or scientific merit, will be subject to a double-blind peer review process carried out by experts in the relevant field; consequently, the authors’ identities will remain confidential until publication.
Content and Size:
Meridional accepts original contributions in the form of essays (30,000–40,000 characters including spaces), chronicles of travel and fiction (6,000–8,000 characters including spaces), poetry and book reviews (5,000–6,000 characters including spaces).
Illustrations will be in black and white and may be suggested by the authors or, alternatively, illustrators or photographers may be invited. A maximum of 5 graphic elements per article – tables, photos, maps – must be numbered, captioned and referenced in the text.
The common theme is the Mediterranean in the past and present, with multiple approaches.
The thematic dossier will be defined for each issue and the experts authors will be invited.
Content selection and peer review
All manuscripts submitted for publication will first be assessed by the Editorial Board, which will consider the extent to which they align with the journal’s focus and their relevance and/or originality within the current literary, historiographical and scientific landscape.
All texts, with the exception of those by invited authors and those of recognised literary or scientific merit, will be subject to a peer review process by experts in the relevant field; consequently, the identities of authors and reviewers will remain confidential until publication.
Fiction and poetry will be assessed by the Editorial Board, which will decide whether or not to accept the submitted texts.
The editors reserve the right to publish texts that have not undergone peer review, provided these result from an express invitation to authors of recognised merit.
All texts must be unpublished, unless there is a justified exception.
Each author must submit their contribution without any indication of personal identification, but accompanied by a document containing a brief biographical note (maximum 1000 characters including spaces) stating their academic background, the institution with which they are affiliated and their email address.
The decisions and recommendations of the reviewers are binding and not subject to appeal.
Format and notes
All submissions must be sent by 31 October 2026 to the email address: geral@revistameridional.pt in two files (text and biographical note, including institutional affiliation and email address) in Word (.docx) format. The font must be Times New Roman, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
Essays must include an abstract (up to 1,000 characters including spaces) and keywords (4–6), in Portuguese and English, a bibliography and notes.
Bibliographical references and citations must be in size 10 and follow Chicago Style guidelines.
To ensure anonymity in the peer review process, any explicit information about the author (contact details, institutional information and other details) must be submitted on a separate page, as mentioned above, and must not appear in any part of the article’s text. Similarly, self-citation or references to the author’s previously published or completed work should be kept to a minimum.
Citations
Citations of more than three lines should be set apart from the main text, in 11-point font, single-spaced, with a 1.25-inch indent on the left, without quotation marks, and ending with the source reference (in a footnote). Short quotations within the main text should be placed within quotation marks and not in italics, followed by the source in brackets (e.g. Coelho 2021: 56).
Bibliography
Papers must also include a bibliography, arranged alphabetically, of all works referenced and all primary and secondary sources cited, as well as titles the author considers essential, listed in alphabetical order by the author’s surname.
Images
All tables, images, maps and other illustrative elements (in the case of photographs, the number should not exceed what is strictly necessary, in JPEG or PNG format) must be inserted into the text and also compiled in a separate file (with high-resolution images, stating the figure number and the corresponding caption).
The author is fully responsible for copyright and guarantees that permission has been obtained for the use of images, unless the publisher is requested to acquire the publication rights.
Reviews
Only works published within the two years preceding the reference year of the current volume will be accepted.
External submissions must notify the editorial team in advance of the intention to review the work, in order to avoid duplication, and must state the reviewer’s institutional affiliation and address.
The name of the reviewer and their institutional affiliation must be stated at the end of the text.
The bibliographic reference should be formatted as follows: AUTHOR. year. Title. Subtitle. (Name of the collection, and volume number, if applicable). Place of publication: publisher, pages. ISBN or ISSN (price).
Languages
We accept contributions in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. Contributions in foreign languages, if accepted by the editorial board, may be translated into Portuguese, except Spanish.
Open Access Policy and Rights
Meridional does not charge author processing charges (APCs) or article submission fees, nor does it pay royalties.
In return for participation, authors will receive two printed copies of the journal and a PDF of their contribution.
This journal offers open access to its content, with a one-year embargo between each issue, based on the principle that the free availability of scientific output is a crucial element in furthering the democratic dissemination of academic knowledge, under the licence CC BY-NC-ND 4.0
Rights remain with the authors, except for images or documents acquired and paid for by the Instituto de Cultura Ibero-Atlântica.
